Mandarin Teacher


THE OPPORTUNITY

Mount Tamalpais School (MTS), a K-8 independent school serving up to 240 students in Mill Valley, California is looking for a Kindergarten to 8th grade Mandarin teacher. This teacher will have the opportunity to work with outstanding colleagues and a dynamic leadership team to develop a rich Mandarin program for MTS throughout their 9 year journey.  

Our mission calls on us to offer a program that is “academically inspiring” and “develops children who are well prepared for their future.” The new Mandarin teacher will be asked to do this as she/he teaches language classes that encourage aural and cultural appreciation and also develop a language proficiency that will serve as the foundation for future Mandarin study.

MTS, committed to language study Kindergarten to 8th grade, is at an exciting place in 2019 and beyond. With a robust budget for professional development and a clear vision for the future, a Mandarin teacher who wants to further develop and strengthen our program while preparing students for the rigors of high school Mandarin will thrive.

Job Responsibilities

  • Teach Kindergarten to 4th Grade Mandarin courses one time per week.

  • Teach 5th grade Mandarin two times per week.

  • Teach 6th-8th grade Mandarin five times per week.

  • Co-lead a Homeroom or serve as an advisor.

  • Provide regular, timely feedback on student work.

  • Communicate proactively and effectively with parents.

  • Other on campus duties assigned to all faculty.

Position Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • A BA or BS in a relevant field. Advanced degree(s) preferred.

  • Two years of teaching experience.  

Personal Qualities:

  • Ability to work with a wide range of individuals.

  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills.

  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
