High School Counseling

MTS has an established history of very strong high school placement. Bay Area independent and parochial schools, boarding schools, and Marin County public schools are well informed about the strength of our academic, social-emotional, and co-curricular programs. We partner with families at every step in the high school application process with a close eye to finding high schools that best fit each student.

That process, beginning in the spring of 7th grade, is supported by teachers and administrators and led by our Head of School, Andrew Davis. Andrew is a former high school admission director and enjoys working closely with the students and families through this important process. The counseling at MTS includes:

Spring, 7th Grade

  • MTS to HS Parent Meeting: overview of the high school application process including SSAT and HSPT, school research, scheduling school visits, essays etc.

  • Diagnostic SSAT

  • Family Meeting 1 with Head of School

Fall, 8th Grade

  • MTS to HS preparation meetings for students including interview preparation

  • High schools visit MTS and meet with students during lunch information sessions

  • SSAT classes offered on campus

  • Parent Statement Workshop

  • Family Meeting 2 with Head of School

Winter, 8th Grade

  • Letters of recommendation written by English and mathematics teacher as well as Head of School

What Parents Have to Say

With great success, Andrew leveraged his years of admissions director experience to guide us through an increasingly competitive process that hinges as much on keen and timely insights about each high school as it does on a laudable MTS track record.
— Courtney and Marco della Cava – Parents of Sebastian (Marin Academy) & Nick (SF University High School)
Andrew and team did an outstanding job helping us and our son navigate through the high school admissions process. This was one of many wonderful experiences we had at MTS. While the admissions guidance was excellent, the process also illustrated how much confidence our shy son has developed at MTS and how much he has flourished academically.
— Leigh Amarind – Parent of Jake (The Branson School)
Andrew and the MTS High School advocacy team put together the most comprehensive, end-to-end, student-first process; a high-touch process intentionally designed to bring out the authentic voice of each student while simultaneously yielding the best fit school. Most importantly, Andrew was instrumental in advocating for our daughter, and our family, in countless ways.
— Duncan Say – Parent of Annabelle (The Drew School)
