How have you volunteered at MTS?

My main volunteer role has been with Student Council at MTS, though I've also helped out with costumes at the lower school play and ad hoc volunteer opportunities both in the classroom and for the school as a whole.

Favorite MTS volunteering experience?

It's tricky to pick just one! I think Student Council is my favorite as I love working directly with the kids. They are so passionate about their roles as school ambassadors and constantly surprise us with their ideas, energy, and hard work.

What have you gained from the experience?

From volunteering at MTS, I have gained a fantastic insight into the school and its ethos, which would have taken a little longer to uncover as a new parent. I really appreciate getting to know a group of kids that I otherwise wouldn't meet and being given a window into the types of issues that are important to them, ranging from the environment to gaga pits! I also love that once a week I'm on campus, seeing the school and its team in action – teachers chatting and checking in on students in the hall, Kelly looking after people at the front desk, Andrew going from talking about the latest theories in education, to skipping with the 8th graders at lunch.

How have you volunteered at MTS?

As I work for a start up, and I have to travel a fair bit for work, it's often been trickier doing things in the day and so mainly I've volunteered in and around big events (so early morning or weekends), such as graduation, Grandparents and Special Friends Tea, STEM Fest, and the plays. I've done set up and break down, as well as set building.

Favorite MTS volunteering experience?

I really love volunteering for set building. There is always a good mix of people, and as it's the weekend, it's relatively relaxed and social. It’s also fun seeing the impact of the stuff you've helped work on come together to form the whole.

What have you gained from the experience?

Such a huge amount of hard work goes into the performing arts experience at MTS, and I have so much respect for the people that pull it together. Not only do they spend weeks/months getting our kids ready to act at such a high level, but there are an unbelievably large number of moving parts that all need to come together seamlessly to create the final show.

Profession: Art Dealer

How have you volunteered at MTS?

I volunteer in many ways. I have been a class parent, and I am currently a Hot Lunch Co-Chair, Pumpkin Patch Chair, and Auction Committee member.

Favorite MTS volunteering experience?

My favorite volunteer opportunity is the Pumpkin Patch. It is the sweetest day. I love seeing the tiny kindergarteners and the more grown up third graders all having a great time doing the monster mash.

What have you gained from the experience?

Volunteering has been a wonderful way to get to know other parents outside of my childrens’ classes. I also love being at school and seeing my children as they go about their day.
