The Importance of Giving - Service Learning at MTS

Yesterday during our All School Gather, we celebrated the importance of giving. Teacher Rob Potter spoke about the giving season to the group highlighting that we all know that it's fun to receive gifts, but do we recognize the benefits of the act of giving? Lots of heads nodded as the students considered the importance of both.

8th grader Kasper addressed the school to give an update on the results of our first ever MTS Read-a-thon in which the school raised over $4,000! He congratulated and thanked our students for their reading efforts, which surpassed our goal of 1,000 hours. All the funds raised will go directly to Room to Read, a global non-profit working to ensure children in low-income countries grow up with effective teachers, high-quality children's books, and essential life skills to escape the cycle of poverty through quality education.

We also heard from our 6th Grade Streets for the Treats team who led a snack drive to help nurses in their work with the unhoused in San Francisco. Learn more about the project here.

Our 8th graders Serena and Tom also presented about the importance of service learning and outlined the ways in which the school will be working on different service projects in each grade during the next trimester. We are so proud of our students and their leadership in serving the community.
