Recent Service Learning Projects
During our Conference Days this week, our parent volunteer Cherity Payne organized several community minded service projects for our middle school students.
The 6th graders provided around 150 sack lunches for clients of St Vincent de Paul who otherwise may have no other meal for the day. St Vincent opens their dining room from 6:30 am-1:00 pm, and clients are welcome to take a sack lunch with them for an evening meal.
The 8th graders and their parents provided an early Thanksgiving dinner for 14 resident families of Oma Village, an affordable housing complex in Novato. In addition to preparing the meal, the kids made special Thanksgiving greeting cards in art class. Then, a group traveled to Oma Village to set up tables in the dining room, set the table, and also had the opportunity to get a tour of the housing development and meet two young kids living there.
Another group of 7th and 8th graders made healthy no-bake dog treats for the Marin Humane Society made from sunflower butter, pumpkin puree, and oatmeal. These will be delivered as a treat for the dogs currently sheltered there.
We love seeing our students getting involved and giving back to our community! Thank you to all our parent volunteers for helping to make this happen. And wishing a Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! May you have a peaceful week with family and friends.
