MTS Students Win 26 Medals at Speech Tournament

Fourteen Mount Tamalpais School Speech Students competed in the prestigious and highly competitive county-wide Margie Burke Public Speaking tournament on April 29, 2023 at the Ross School. They were awarded a total of 26 medals in three categories: Dramatic Interpretation, Impromptu Speaking and Original Prose & Poetry. In addition, four of our students were also awarded. All Around Grand Champions. The middle school speech students are led by long-time MTS performing arts teacher and speech coach Deb Marcom. Students meet on Thursdays during their enrichment elective to prepare for the tournament. As Deb puts it, "It's incredible to see the growth the students make over the course of the year and the amazing confidence that they gain through the process. Many of the students who take this elective are not naturally comfortable with public speaking, and it's really through the training and hard work they put in that they are able to achieve these kind of results." We're so proud of our students!
