Library Edible Book Contest was a Huge Success!

This year, Lisa Levin hosted the first-ever MTS Edible Book Festival. This creative food project drew upon inspiration from books and stories. Students in grades 3-8 were challenged to create an edible creation inspired by an aspect of a book or story.

This wonderful contest was inspired by the International Edible Book Festival held annually worldwide on April 1st. The event began in 2000 to celebrate the French Gastronome, Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (1755-1826), who was born in April. Jean-Anthelme was famous for his book "Physiologie du gout," a witty meditation on food. Participants create edible books that are exhibited at school, documented, and then consumed. So, why not give it a go at MTS?!

The Edible Book Contest was a huge success! 41 creative and delightful entries were entered into this inaugural library contest.

I am truly impressed by the creativity, effort, and thoughtfulness reflected in today’s Edible Book submissions. The range of imaginative interpretations was remarkable, and it quickly became clear that this event is less of a contest and more of a celebration—an Edible Book Festival honoring the stories we enjoy throughout the year. Thank you for your support in helping make this experience so meaningful for our students – says Lisa Levin, MTS school librarian.

A huge shout-out to our dedicated parent volunteers who made the event possible. Additionally, thank you to the judges for taking on the very difficult task of selecting winners. Three categories were judged for lower school (grades 3-5) and middle school (grades 6-8). Everyone was very impressed by the exceptional culinary talent among our students, in both aesthetics and taste! Congratulations to the winners, and we can't wait to do it again next year!
