Author Stuart Gibbs Visits MTS

MTS Librarian Lisa Levin partnered with Book Passage to bring author Stuart Gibbs to campus to talk about his new book, Charlie Thorne and the Last Equation. Gibbs is a New York Times bestselling author of the FunJungle, Moon Base Alpha, and Spy School series. He gave a great talk to our 4th-6th graders in the school gym this afternoon.

Students asked thoughtful questions during the Q&A after his talk. We learned that Gibbs typically goes through 8-10 drafts when writing his books, and he tends to work from outlines. (He said some writers claim to go through as many as 40 drafts!) He wrote a book about dinosaurs when he was in elementary school, and while it was not published, the school library where he attended elementary school retains a copy of it on their shelves. Like many writers, he acknowledged that every writer has books rejected, and that there would be no writers in the world if everyone gave up writing after rejection. Gibbs does not have a favorite of his own books - he likes them all! He also enjoys hiking in his spare time, and was just hiking on Mount Tam.
