7th Graders' Annual Medieval Pilgrimages

The 7th grade has been studying Medieval Europe this trimester, and they just completed their pilgrimages! The class went on pilgrimage to Canterbury, Chartres, Rome, and Santiago de Compostela in the MTS Grove. Students performed skits for each other in costume, teaching and learning about the dangers of travel in the Middle Ages, the role of patron saints, Gothic architecture, and the difficulties in peoples' lives. We had some wonderful constuctions (check out the huge reliquary for Canterbury), extensive maps detailing the time it took people to travel, some great artwork representing the famed stained-glass windows of Chartres, and many, many amazing costumes. Having studied the Canterbury Tales prior to beginning our pilgrimage, students were ready for the mixing of monks, ladies, knights and miller's wives, and their skits showed off their knowledge.
