2nd Grade Engineers Design Games and Host a Carnival

Congratulations to our 2nd grade game designers! Using knowledge from their balance and motion studies, they applied the engineering design process to create blueprints, prototypes, and original games featuring motion elements like tossing, rolling, spinning, and balancing.

First, they brainstormed ideas and gathered feedback from peers to decide which idea to move forward with. Next, they drafted blueprints, and after a week of planning, they worked on prototyping, using unconventional materials like cardboard, craft sticks, and pipe cleaners to build their designs.

During the testing phase of the design process, 2nd graders used checklists to play and evaluate each other's games. They checked to make sure their games would be fair for all participants, that the games had clear rules and objectives, used motion, and featured a creative and engaging design. The process also gives students an opportunity to practice giving and receiving feedback in a constructive and empathetic way. Overall, the testing phase is a crucial step in ensuring each game is the best it can be.

After the testing and evaluation phase, students redesigned elements of their games that needed improvement. Finally, the games were ready to be played! Parents and other MTS classes were invited to join for the 2nd Grade Carnival! Everyone had a blast!
