Weekly Student COVID Testing

MTS will be testing students weekly in alternating Groups A and B (cohorts) with random testing for the other group.

Upcoming Testing
3/9: Group B
3/16: Group A
3/23: Group B
3/30: Group A
4/15: All students tested following spring break

Weekly Testing procedures:

  • Mondays: Test kit sent home in your child's backpack.
  • Tuesday mornings: Student collects sample, ensuring the tube is at least half way filled up. If there is not enough saliva, the lab will reject the sample.
  • Tuesday morning arrival: Student returns test to designated staff at arrival.

Key Testing Practices:

  • Have your child collect the sample right after they wake up as you cannot brush your teeth, eat, or drink anything at least 30 minutes before your test. That includes gum, breath mints, water, or any other fluid.
  • DO NOT use mouthwash 2 hours prior to your test
  • If your child is having a hard time producing saliva, having them deeply inhale a lemon helps produce saliva.
  • Wipe down the outside of the tube with the provided alcohol wipe
  • Place the tube back in the plastic ziplock bag with the QR Code.

Watch this instructional video on how to administer the test.

Results Process:

Once test samples have been received, the "Testing Status" on the Parent Portal will read "Test Results Pending."

In the event of any positive test results:

1) The individual(s) with the positive test results will be notified.
2) The cohort(s) with close contact will be notified.
3) The MTS community will be notified.
4) The "Testing Status" on the Parent Portal will specify "Test Results Received."

In the event that there are no positive cases:

1) The "Testing Status" on the Parent Portal will specify "Test Results Received," in which case – if you have not received any notifications from the school – you will know that all results were negative.
