Student COVID Testing On-Campus 12/3/20

In order to return to on-campus learning the week of December 7 after the Thanksgiving holiday, students in Grades 4 - 8 are required to provide a negative COVID test result. In addition, it is required for any student in Grades K-3 that traveled or attended gatherings outside of the Public Health guidelines. For all other K-3 students, testing is not required but is highly recommended. As a reminder, families must shelter-in-place starting on Sunday, November 29th.

MTS will be hosting a drive-through saliva based PCR test on Thursday, December 3rd. Please carefully read the following information below about the testing process.

Before Testing Day

Please complete this Consent Form by Monday, November 30th. Families will be billed $35 per test via FACTS. If you did not sign up, you are still welcome to participate. Please just arrive during the assigned time slots below.

Day of Testing Information
  • DO NOT use mouthwash 2 hours prior to your test
  • DO NOT brush your teeth, eat, or drink anything at least 30 minutes before your test.  That includes gum, breath mints, water, or any other fluid.
Testing Schedule

Please arrive in the MTS parking lot at the time below that corresponds with your child’s last name. This is a drive-through test so it will not be necessary to park.

  • 8:30-9:00 am – Last name beginning with A - G
  • 9:00-9:30 am – Last name beginning with H - L
  • 9:30-10:00 am – Last name beginning with M - P
  • 10:00-10:30 am – Last name beginning with Q - Z
Grades K - 3

Because collecting a sample might be more difficult for the younger students, you may pick up a test kit in advance and collect the sample at home. Please pick up a test kit on Wednesday, December 2nd between 7:45-9:00 am or 2:00-3:00 pm. On the morning of December 3rd, collect your child's sample. You can then drop off your child’s sample during the time slot that corresponds with your child’s last name below.

Tips for Saliva Testing
  • Keep your mask on until you are ready to test.
  • The tester will hand you:
    • An alcohol wipe prep pad
    • A Saliva Collection Aid
    • A collection tube
  • Uncap the tube and hold it in your hand.
  • Tear open the collection aid package, remove the aid, and place it securely onto the open end of the collection tube (the wider end of the collection straw pushes down into the tube).
  • Gather saliva in your mouth and gently push it into the straw. DO NOT blow the saliva into the tube. You’ll end up with bubbles and will need to wait for them to dissipate to ensure you have filled the tube to about half way.
  • Remove the collection aid and discard it.
  • Replace the cap back on to the collection tube.
  • Open the alcohol wipe package and wipe down the outside of the tube.
  • Hand the tube back to the tester.
Results Process

The individual tests will be put into batches for processing. Test results will be sent to MTS by Friday evening. If there is a positive result in a batch, Mirimus will separate the samples into batches of 2. Once the results are narrowed down to the 2 individuals, we will contact those families directly for further testing. We will send a results notification on Saturday, December 5th.

Please note: If you will be getting tested using another vendor, a negative test result from a test on 12/3 or later must be submitted to COVIDresponse@mttam.org by Sunday, December 6 at 5:00 PM.
