Joining After Kindergarten
Kindergarten isn’t the only way into MTS. Families join our community at many points along the way, with opportunities to enter in several grades each year. Sixth grade is a another entry point, when a 6-10 new students join their classmates as they begin middle school together.
Joining in 4th or 5th Grade
Joining MTS in 4th or 5th grade gives students a running start in middle school. This allows them time to settle into our departmentalized structure, get to know subject-specific teachers, and build friendships before making the transition into Middle School.
One signature welcome: every 4th and 5th grader takes part in a full-scale musical production before winter break, with coaching from the performing arts department from day one. It’s an unforgettable way to discover new talents and become part of the MTS community.

Middle school comes with so much change, and we ultimately wanted our daughter to be in an environment where she could be herself, feel challenged, and enjoy learning. It felt like a big decision to make the switch, but the transition was seamless. She was welcomed so warmly from the start and has really thrived in the smaller, more personal environment. Joining in 6th or 7th Grade
Every year, we welcome approximately 6–10 new students to our 6th grade class. That means new middle schoolers aren’t entering an already-established community on their own. They’re joining a group of peers who are also building new friendships, finding their footing, and beginning this next chapter together.
Within the first few weeks of school, our middle schoolers head off on outdoor education adventures, from tackling the high ropes course at Westminster Woods to whitewater rafting on the American River, while the 8th graders take an unforgetable backpacking trip in Yosemite.

Our eldest, now an 8th grader, started at MTS in 6th grade after attending public school. As we explored middle school options, we were looking for an environment that would support our child’s journey into adolescence while embracing and celebrating who they were and who they would become. MTS has exceeded our expectations in every way. After watching our eldest thrive, we enrolled our youngest as an incoming 6th grader and are so excited for her to experience all that MTS has to offer.
