Applying to Mount Tamalpais School

We look forward to getting to know your family through the admission process. We appreciate your time and interest and hope to make the process as smooth, informative, and worthwhile as possible. Kindergarten Applicant Families

Kindergarten is our main entry point and we welcome up to 24 new kindergarteners each year. Children applying to enter kindergarten in 2020 must be 5 years old by September 1, 2020.

The steps in the kindergarten application process include:

1.    Attend a group tour.
2.    Attend campus programs and prospective family events as interested.
3.    Complete the Parent/Guardian Application by January 17, 2020. When answering the short answer questions on page 3 of the application, please note that brief responses to the questions are absolutely fine.
4.    Upon submitting your application, you will be invited to schedule a parent/guardian meeting with the Director of Admissions.
5.    Upon submitting your application, you will be invited to schedule a kindergarten applicant visit. Kindergarten applicant visits are offered on Saturday, January 11, Saturday, January 25, and Saturday, February 8.
6.    Email the PreK-Grade 1 Confidential Student Evaluation Form to your child's current teacher. Student evaluation forms are due by January 17, 2020.

 

Grades 1–5 Applicants

Space availability in 1st – 5th grades varies; please contact Amy Pearson to discuss openings. The steps in the application process include:

1.    Attend a group tour.
2.    Attend campus programs and prospective family events as interested.
3.    Complete the Parent/Guardian Application by January 17, 2020. When answering the short answer questions on page 3 of the application, please note that brief responses to the questions are absolutely fine.
4.    Upon submitting your application, you will be invited to schedule a parent/guardian meeting with the Director of Admissions.
5.    Upon submitting your application, you will be invited to schedule a visit day for your child during the school day. These are scheduled starting in November and conclude in late February.
6.    Email the 2nd–8th Grade Confidential Student Evaluation Form to your child's current teacher. Student evaluation forms are due by January 31, 2020.
7.    Sign and submit the MTS Records Release Form directly to your child's current school. School records should be emailed directly to Amy Pearson, or mailed to her attention. Student records are due by January 31, 2020.

 

Grades 6–8 Applicant Families

Sixth grade is an important entry point at MTS and we gladly welcome up to 8 new 6th graders each year. Space availability in 7th and 8th grade varies; please contact Amy Pearson to discuss. The steps in the application process include:

1.    Attend a group tour.
2.    Attend campus programs and prospective family events as interested.
3.    6th grade applicants take the ISEE exam and have the results sent to MTS (our school code is 054096). MTS is hosting the ISEE exam for 6th grade applicants on Saturday, February 1, 2020. Contact Amy Pearson for an event code and then go to www.erblearn.org to register for an ISEE exam.
4.    Complete the Parent/Guardian Application by February 14, 2020. When answering the short answer questions on page 3 of the application, please note that brief responses to the questions are absolutely fine.
5.    Students applying to 6th–8th grade complete the Student Questionnaire. Hard copies are provided or download the Student Questionnaire and ask your child to complete it in their own handwriting following his/her visit day at MTS.
6.    Upon submitting your application, you will be invited to schedule a parent/guardian meeting with the Director of Admissions.
7.    Upon submitting your application, you will be invited to schedule a visit day for your child during the school day. Visit days are scheduled starting in November and conclude in early March.
8.    Email the 2nd–8th Grade Confidential Student Evaluation Form to your child's current teacher. For 7th and 8th grade applicants, please request a student evaluation form from your child's math and your child's English teacher. Student evaluation forms are due by February 14, 2020.
9.    Sign and submit the MTS Records Release Form directly to your child's current school. School records should be emailed directly to Amy Pearson, or mailed to her attention. Student records are due by February 14, 2020.

 

Decision Mailing Date

Admission decisions are mailed on March 18, 2020 and electronic notifications are emailed on March 19, 2020 at noon. The deadline to return an enrollment agreement and deposit is Thursday, March 26, 2020 by 10:00 am.

MTS shares a common notification date with other Bay Area independent schools. Families who are offered admission are given one week to accept and return their signed enrollment agreement and tuition deposit. This is known as the "decision week" when families are not to be contacted directly by the schools, unless the families initiate contact with the school first.

Applicants placed in the wait pool will be notified if a space opens after the initial decisions have been emailed/mailed. Candidates who are not accepted are welcome to call the admission office to discuss the decision.
