92007_115251_0.pctAs a wonderful start to our year learning about and celebrating Africa, we were honored to welcome a group of the Maasai tribe to our school on Wednesday, September 19th.  They shared information about their tribe & customs and performing traditional dance in a general assembly after lunch.  They also taught the after-school program how to bead in the traditional Maasai way.

The Maasai who joined us are The Sironka Dance Troupe.  The group was formed in 2001 by Nicholas & Seleina Sironka to help identify and nurture young creative talent among the Maasai youth. It has made several tours of the USA and UK, fostering cultural understanding and knowledge of Africa & sharing the mystique of the Maasai. Nicholas Sironka feels these visits offer cultural exchange, “and an avenue through which we could all learn from each other, accept our differences, and accept one another regardless of where we come from.”
