The fifth grade is proud to announce the the birth of several alevin or infant trout. With the help and generosity of the Department and Fish and Game and Trout Unlimited, we have brought trout into our classroom. The eggs arrived on Wednesday, February 16 and were placed in our
tanks by the fifth grade. As we have patiently awaited the hatching, the students have kept journals and have been able to share the project and their excitement with thier Kindergarten buddy bears. The trout will live with us for approximately the next three weeks at which time our study will culminate with a field trip to the Bon Tempe Reservoir for the official release of our fry or toddler trout. The photos show the alevin with the attached yolk sacs. These sacs nourish the alevin as the grow. Upon full absorption of this yolk sac the young trout become fry and are ready for release. Thank you for sharing in our excitement.
