The goal of the Physical Education Department is to instill in each student an appreciation of exercise, or movement, as a lifetime activity. Lessons are planned to promote a positive self-image while consistently reinforcing the concepts of sportsmanship and fair play.
Students in Kindergarten through eighth grade participate in a comprehensive and sequential program of physical education. Stretching and muscular/cardiovascular endurance exercises are an important part of daily Physical Educaton classes at every grade level. The K-3 curriculum includes units emphasizing motor skills appropriate to students’ developmental levels. In grades 4-8, the curriculum includes units in individual, partner, and team sports. Each year, students are introduced to new sports and equipment to enhance learning. More advanced skills, strategies and techniques are taught progressively. All students also participate in the Presidential Physical Fitness Program.
Facilities include a gymnasium with two permanent and two portable baskets, regulation volleyball standards, and a premier climbing wall; a soccer field; a blacktop area with two four-square courts, one tetherball area, one basketball court, and a state-of-the-art play structure.
