One recommendation may be from a family friend or extracurricular instructor and the third reference is your choice. Recommendations should be mailed to MTS directly from the individuals writing the recommendations.

*** The MTS admissions office will send you a post card notification as we receive your application materials and when we receive each recommendation. If you do not receive a postcard confirming receipt of your application materials two weeks after mailing, please phone the admissions office directly at (415) 383-9434 x113 and we will be happy to assist you***

Your Written Application is Complete....Now What?

After we receive your completed application, including all items described on the previous pages, the admissions office will call to schedule your child for a screening, observation or a visit to our school. The goal of our admissions screening/observation/visit procedure is to give us the chance to meet your child and your child the chance to experience our school. Shortly after the application deadline, assuming we have received all of your application materials, the MTS Admissions Coordinator will phone you to set up a date for your child to be either screened or observed, or to visit our school.

For applicants to Grade K-1:

Children must  be screened at MTS or at one of the shared testing schools including, but not limited to: Hamlin, MCDS, Burke's or St. Mark’s. By filling out and returning the "Permission for Release of Information" form, you will let us know where your child will be screened, and which schools you would like to have receive the test results. K/1 Screenings at MTS are held on Saturdays during January and February; these screenings generally last for approximately 2 hours. If you indicate on your application that you have decided to screen with us, we will contact you to schedule your child for our next available opening. If a child chooses to test at any school other than MTS, he or she will then be scheduled for an observation/gouup visit to our school. These visits will occur on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Saturday in either January, February or early March and last approximately 1 hour. We will phone you to schedule these visits as the dates become available. During the children’s screening or observation visit parents are invited to sit in the Teacher’s Lounge with the Admissions Coordinator who will be available to answer any questions you may have at this point in the process.  Parents may also opt to relax in the Library or outside on campus.

For applicants to Grade 2-8:

Children applying for Grades 2-8 will spend a full day visiting our school During the visit, they will attend classes, interview and participate in some informal academic assessments. We try to schedule these full day visits on days that best meet your needs as well as the school’s overall schedule. Full day visits begin at 8:30 a.m. (after morning arrival) and students are picked up at 2:45 p.m. (before afternoon dismissal).

Parent Interviews:

MTS does not automatically schedule personal interviews with parents of applicants.  If parents or guardians of an applicant would like to meet with the Head of School, Dr. Kate Mecca, we strongly encourage those families to do so after we have received your application. The months following the application deadline are very busy but we will do our best to fit you into our schedule. Please remember that such meetings are not a mandatory part of our process, but are certainly strongly encouraged.
